HOTEL PETER AND PAUL WEDDING | Venue Spotlight

Hotel Peter and Paul weddings are pretty incredible! The moment you walk in you are struck with its sacred beauty, warm aura and spiritual history. The space is impressive and definitely is the statement piece of any event. If the ceremony is planned during the sun’s golden hour, the light coming through the stained glass windows is completely ethereal. It is a very special place and it was a labor of love for the owner, Nathalie Jordi, to resurrect this old Catholic school and church. Here she gives us a little insight about the place…

What inspired you to build Hotel Peter + Paul?

I think the Marigny is the best neighborhood for a visitor in New Orleans (and as a resident, I love living in the neighborhood myself). I had the vision of a medium-sized hotel that felt deeply rooted in this wonderful place. And I feel very lucky to have ended up with these buildings, which have been a center of community for the neighborhood for many years.

What is your favorite spot on the property?

I love the 3rd floor stage lounge, where we painted a huge mural based on a stage set from a play performed on that stage the first year the school opened, in 1900. There is a quiet reading lounge up there for guests and it’s a beautiful place for photographs.

What excites you about the event space -- The Church?

The layers of history! Literally - you can see many layers of paint on the wall. I am also always finding new stories inside the stained glass windows. I just noticed a pelican (Louisiana’s state bird) in one of them the other day. I also love the ceiling painting of St Cecilia (the patron saint of music) above the choir loft where the organ used to be.

Is there a wedding moment you witnessed in the space that was particularly memorable?

Honestly, I’ve cried at every single ceremony I’ve seen! I think they are all so beautiful!! But the very first one we ever did was particularly special for me, because it was the realization of a long standing dream. And that couple comes back to see us every year - now with their son. I love that.

Does Hotel Peter + Paul require couples to hire a wedding planner? If so, why?

Yes, and couples are always so glad that they do. It’s definitely not a cookie cutter venue and there are a lot of logistical issues to work out to make the day runs as easily and beautifully as possible.

What size wedding suits the space the best?

150 - 200

Words of wisdom for engaged couples…

If you find yourself sweating the small stuff, try to think about whether you will care about it when you’re thinking back about the event in 10 years.

Thank you, Nathalie, for taking the time to answer a few questions for Spera Special Events!
